Spent some time today asking questions and getting pointers from my neighbor who is a photographer. She has a digital SLR, so we spent much of our time trying to figure out how to get my camera to do what her’s was doing.  I had a lot of fun and I learned a lot too! This evening I was using my new found knowledge and got a few cool pictures.

Unfortunately, I ran out of battery before I could take anymore.

For the second year in a row, Chesley has entered a story in a writing contest. Lightning Man’s Protective Armor is about a boy who dreams of being a hero and goes by the name… “Lightning Man”. This story is inspired by Chesley’s own life. The illustrations were the result of a great deal of time and hard work.

Special thanks goes out to Grandma Haynes who gave Chesley the markers that were used in the illustrations.

It was Kaden’s turn to go out with Mommy and paint his own mug. I had prepped his mug for him with the base coats of paint. Kaden painted a design on one side and put his hand print on the other. Then we had fun taking funny pictures of ourselves to remember our outing!

We picked up Chesley’s mug today. We left it behind last week after Chesley painted it so they could fire it in the kiln. It was exciting to see how the mug turned out. Chesley used it right away for a cup of herbal tea!

Chesley and I went to Piece of Mine here in Grand Ledge and got in some quality Mommy and Chesley time. We had a great time! Chesley painted a mug with a picture of himself on one side and polka-dots on the other. We left it behind for them to fire in the kiln. When it’s done we will pick it up and I’ll let you see how it turns out!

I recently have done a few tutorials and have starting playing with blending layers in Gimp.  It has been a lot of fun just playing around and seeing what I can do with it.

In this picture of myself, I did a motion blur on the background. Then I made minor curve adjustments. I made a copy of the layer and then made the bottom layer black and white. Finally, I changed the mode of the top layer to overlay.

Here’s the before and after… (click the thumbnails for close-ups).
