No, Karl isn’t 7 feet tall!

…but we estimate this sunflower to be about that big.

Karl is just over 6ft tall. So, as you can see this flower has surpassed Karl’s height. It is the last of the surprise sunflowers to finally bloom this summer.

To all of our surprise some sunflowers popped up in Mom and Dad Haynes’ front yard. Who planted them there?

The only thing we can think of is our bird food. Mom and Dad took care of our cockatiel a few times when we were traveling. There are sunflower seeds in his food. So we’re thinking that perhaps his old food was dumped over the deck. Or… maybe some birds dropped the seeds there.

Whatever the case, there they are. We all watched them these last few weeks in anticipation of their bloom.

As you can see, they have grown about 4 foot and some flowers have become quite large! Aren’t they beautiful?

We got up and went strawberry picking this morning! It was very hot but we had a great time. We picked 12 lbs of strawberries in about 45 minutes and then decided we were done since we were all needing a drink. Now it’s time for strawberry jam, strawberries on ice cream, and strawberry smoothie!! Mmmmm!

So what do lilacs and Applebees have in common?…that’s what my Mother’s Day consisted of!

I have been a ‘Mom’ for 5 years now and wouldn’t trade it for the world! I love my boys and I love to care for them! Sometimes that means changing diapers, and always it means lots of work …but that’s what Moms do! It’s all worth it when their smiling little faces look at you and say, “I love you Mommy!”

The day after the first emergency room visit I left for a 2 day / 1 night hike. We went along the Bruce Trail spending most of the hike along the Georgian Bay. It was absolutely beautiful! It was temperature was moderate but when you put a pack on your back and get down the trail you get hot really quick. Not to worry though, there was a wonderful cool breeze coming off the Bay that felt great. We also took a few breaks to jump in the water and really cool off (the water was ice cold)!

For Christmas this year I received a pot, dirt, and a bulb. To some, that might sound like a terrible gift, but I was excited! I planted the bulb and watered it for the first time two days after Christmas. For the last month I have watched it slowly grow. The boys have been checking on it every day this last week as we watched the blossoms begin to open. Now it stands in all it’s beauty and I had to share it with you!

(Thanks so much Jeff and Amber, I’m enjoying my gift!)
