Paper and Crayons

A few weeks ago the boys and I were looking for something to do. So I rolled out a giant sheet of paper and got out a pack of jumbo size crayons. Chesley knew what to do going to work right away but Kaden didn’t know what to make of it. Soon we had Kaden coloring too. He’d scribble a little, and then look up to see if I approved of his hard work. :) As you can see, I had to keep reminding him that crayons were for the paper, not the mouth. (That’s when you’re glad you got the non-toxic kind.)

Quest to Declutter

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Are you the kind of person who gets stressed out when you see a cluttered mess?

I sure do. I find myself shoving it all in drawers, closets, and in the corner of another room (the one I’m not in). The stuff is usually something I’m going to need some time or another, but haven’t found a permanent home for it. This is the way I have been dealing with trying to keep my home stress free.

But there is another kind of clutter too. It’s the kind that in our family is considered “Denise’s stuff”. When I first got married and had the opportunity to decorate our place, I enjoyed imagining just how I wanted it to look. With limited cash and limited supplies I ended up decorating the way I always had; lots of knick knacks. Not that a knick knack is bad, it’s just that they can easily take over.

So what now? Well, feeling the need to simplify my life in order to keep my sanity as the mother of two, my style has changed. Just last week I read the article, A Guide to Creating a Minimalist Home. It talked about so many things I have been thinking about lately. I was inspired to take another look around our place with a new understanding and begin to declutter. The bedrooms are still as crazy as ever, but I’m excited to see what a few hours and a change in my thinking has done to the main living space.

Now to see Karl’s reaction when he gets home…

On Saturday Mom and Dad Hanna took us and the kids to Home Depot for their Kids Workshops. Chesley and Delorah each got their own apron and kit to make a toolbox. Chesley and his Gramps worked hammering it together and they both seemed to enjoy the project. I’m wondering… what is it about tools that gets boys so excited? You would have to of been there to hear his excited laughter when he got to use the hammer! It was so funny!

Ingham County Fair ‘07

Yesterday we visited the Ingham County Fair. It was 97 degrees and we were all so hot! Chesley didn’t seem to mind the heat, going on ride after ride. Kaden’s favorite attraction was the misting fans they had set up around the fair to help us from overheating. Just about the time we were walking back to the car it started to feel cooler. But, despite the heat, we had a good time and made some memories with pictures to show for it.
