Karl grew up with his cousins, living in the same area and some even going to the same schools. I saw my cousins only a few times a year, at holidays for some, and once every 4 years for others.
Our boys saw all their cousins this summer! Their only cousin on Karl’s side lives in Michigan and they see her often…
…but their cousins on my side of the family they only see every few years or so, being that they have made Kansas home.
It had been 3 1/2 years since all the Hannas had been together. Since then, there have been a few more additions to the family.
While we were all here we had good times eating good food, playing frisbee golf, going for walks, playing games, going swimming, and just hanging out.
We are all spread out… Mom and Dad with Derrick and Delorah back or going back to Papua New Guinea, Dieneke and Jared in Kansas and soon going to Missouri, Deanna and Gratchen here in Durham, and Robbie in Iowa with plans to head to Wisconsin this fall. I don’t know how long it will be before we are able to all get together again, but it sure was special while it lasted.
We went on a hike at Allen Park and enjoyed seeing all the signs of spring. There were several different kinds of flowers, buds on the trees, and even some bugs flying around.
We ended up going down a long trail and were wishing we had brought some water to drink. Next time we will be prepared!
We are pleased to announce to you the engagement of Deanna Hanna, Denise’s sister, to Gratchen Grison! Plans are being made for their upcoming wedding day, July 17, 2010.
What a privilege it was to be able to take their engagement photos. I had such a great time doing it! Karl and I have put the pictures in a gallery for you to enjoy.
On Saturday we traveled to Ayr, Ontario to celebrate Great Nanny’s 95th birthday. We were excited to see so many family and friends who were there.
Back in 2006 we got a 5 generation picture with Nanny. She is “Mom” to 2 children, “Nanny” to 9 grandchildren, “Great Nanny” to 25 great grandchildren, and “Great-Great Nanny” to 5 great-great grandchildren. Now, that’s something to be proud of! What a privilege it is for Chesley and Kaden to know their Great-Great Nanny. That doesn’t happen very often these days.

This weekend we put on some ice skates and ventured out on the icy pond. What a great time we had together!
It was Chesley and Kaden’s first time but already we have seen a great improvement. By the end of the season they’ll be pro-skaters, ready to try out for the 2011 winter Olympics! Oh wait… they would have to wait till 2014. :)
