This weekend we put on some ice skates and ventured out on the icy pond. What a great time we had together!

It was Chesley and Kaden’s first time but already we have seen a great improvement. By the end of the season they’ll be pro-skaters, ready to try out forĀ  the 2011 winter Olympics! Oh wait… they would have to wait till 2014. :)

While driving by Allan Park (corner of 2nd SDR Conc and Allan Park Rd in West Grey, Ontario), a van pulled out without looking in front of Karl as he was approaching the intersection. This caused an accident sending him (he was alone in the car) through a fence and down a fifteen to twenty foot drop off.

Fortunately, Karl was going well below the posted speed limit and didn’t injure the driver of the van (who was ticketed for failing to yield) or the young passenger in the front seat.

Soon after visiting the emergency room, Karl was released with orders to “take it easy”. He received a mild concussion and injuries to his neck when his head hit the steering wheel… other than that his chest hurts a little bit from the seat belt restraining him, and his knees are aching, we assume from the dashboard.

The accident could have been much worse. We are so glad that Karl is going to be all right and that we had a spare vehicle to use as backup transportation. We have so much to be thankful for!

The Ingham County Fair was a lot of fun this year. We ate elephant ears, cotton candy, and corn dogs. Then we bought some tickets and tried out the rides. Chesley and Kaden can’t wait to go again next year!

We have faithfully went every year for a while. Check out the pictures of the fair in 2008, 2007, 2006, and 2005.

On Saturday Karl’s step-sister, Cheri was married to John Hanson.

Karl and I were the official photographers. We put our new camera to work, taking almost 300 pictures and were very pleased with how they turned out. It was nice to be able to give the bride and groom something so they can remember the big day for years to come.

Kaden was the ring bearer in the wedding and he did a great job walking the flower girl down the isle.

Congratulations John and Cheri Hanson!

On Thursday, June 25th Grandma Herrick suffered cardiac arrest. Karl, Chesley, Kaden, and I were all there as the EMTs did CPR on her. After 26 minutes they were able to get a weak pulse, and then took her in the ambulance to the hospital.

On Sunday, June 28th she died with her family standing around her. She was 80 years old and was leaving behind 6 children, 15 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.

We are all going to miss Grandma Herrick but we are comforted to know that she’s now in heaven. We know that Grandma trusted Christ as her personal Savior. Some day, Karl will get to see her again and thank her for the part she played in his life.

“My friends, we want you to understand how it will be for those followers who have already died. Then you won’t grieve over them and be like people who don’t have any hope. We believe that Jesus died and was raised to life. We also believe that when God brings Jesus back again, he will bring with him all who had faith in Jesus before they died. Our Lord Jesus told us that when he comes, we won’t go up to meet him ahead of his followers who have already died.

With a loud command and with the shout of the chief angel and a blast of God’s trumpet, the Lord will return from heaven. Then those who had faith in Christ before they died will be raised to life. Next, all of us who are still alive will be taken up into the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the sky. From that time on we will all be with the Lord forever. Encourage each other with these words.”

Denise’s sister, Dieneke, and family spent a few nights with us on their way back home to Missouri. The kids had a great time playing with bubbles, water, blocks, bikes, and more. We had fun hanging out the catching up, seeing how last time we had seen one another was over two years ago!
